On a Sunday walk, Mr. Utterson and Mr. Enfield pass by Dr. Jekyll’s house. They stop and look at the building, remembering the strange events connected to it. They see Dr. Jekyll sitting at an open window on the upper floor. He looks very sad and lonely.

Mr. Utterson calls up to him, expressing hope that he is feeling better. Dr. Jekyll says he is very low in spirits but is glad to see them. Mr. Utterson suggests that Dr. Jekyll join them for a walk to feel better. Dr. Jekyll smiles and seems about to agree but suddenly looks terrified.

A look of horror crosses his face, and without a word, he quickly closes the window. Mr. Utterson and Mr. Enfield are deeply shocked by what they have just seen. They walk away in silence, both feeling that something is seriously wrong with their friend. They fear that Dr. Jekyll is in great trouble but do not know how to help him.
